[FGC #5] “The Life Pursuit”

The Toughs trooped down the hall. We shadowhuddled near the lockers. Their dark herald yelled “Get em!” so we ran. One day we’d outrun them.

  1. Nice economy of words. Congrats on last week! I didn’t have a lot of time to read through all the entries, but I had a feeling yours might win. 🙂

    • Thanks, D. Hopefully your being busy is a good thing?

  2. Such an intriguing photo attending the twitfic. Cool sci-fi-esque narrative. I want to know more.

    • All the photos I use in these FGC entries are from creative commons since I myself am a terrible photographer and, well, public domain and all that.

Thanks for kind words. Can’t wait to read and discuss this week’s entries. Cheers.

  3. Very nicely done: some beautiful imagery and descriptions for such a common event. I really enjoyed the way it’s written.

    • Thanks! I was in a very middleschool state of mind when I wrote it.

  4. […] Laura McNaughton 14. Emma Venables 15. Barbara @ de rebus 16. Douglas Riggs 17. Dalena […]

  5. Masterfully done, friend of mine! Your word choice–“shadowhuddled” and “dark herald”–elevate the tone of the piece into a dramatic other-world sense of impending doom. Your ending is excellent. Really well done!

  6. Very evocative.

  7. This is great. It really evokes that feeling of waiting for the bully to find you.

  8. […] Judges’ Choice Award goes to Douglas Rigg’s The Life Pursuit. […]

  9. Congratulations! I love this one–and have always loved the way you create such powerful non-words. “Shadowhuddled” is absolutely poetic.
